    making cannabutter

    Well seeing how everyone has been cooking lately, I got the itch too. So I'm gonna scratch it.

    This is 12 grams of high quality trimmings, and 8 grams of white rhino buds

    I used 18 ounces of water, and 2 sticks of butter. (1 bottle water per stick)

    The butter melts...

    Mmm smells good with the greenery added... *watch the green get added*

    I cooked for an hour, stirring really well every 5 to 10 minutes. When not stirring I covered with a lid.

    The temps stayed about 155 to 175ish.

    *music* I always feel like, somebody's watching me.... *music*

    I knew it was gonna be a tight fit in my container. So I used my spoon to scoop out the green from the pot and set it on my container, I'd roll the spoon over the green pressing out the juices, then I set aside for later squeezing.

    I poured the rest of the liquid from the pot into the container. The yellow straining material is some old panties my girlfriend doesn't wear anymore... couldn't find my cheesecloth..

    running outta room... after squeezing my used MJ ball for every last drop... the butter liquid is to the top of my container... i guessed it pretty close.

    Into the fridge...

    I thought I snapped a pic of me popping the butter block out, but I guessed i didn't take that one... doh.. here's the pic of what's left after the block came out... nasty brown water...

    Finished butter after melting it into my tupper container.

    Now to make the krispies...

    I've never made butter before... I hope it works! I'll be making the treats later... I'll let yall know what happens!

    Well I made the Cocoa Kreepers and I guess I didn't make the butter strong enough, next time I'll use just 1 stick of butter. I have one thing left to try, smearing on some toast, I'll try that for breakfast and see if it's strong enough to feel anything from that.

    Clarified Butter

    I am sorry if I am posting late into this thread but I had a question about the process.

    Does any THC remain dissolved in that ugly brown water? The Ghang recipe is water and milk so the THC must be soluble.

    Would it make sense to continue cooking down the butter water mixture after straining out the MJ solids. Boil down until the temperature starts to rise above 212F. Then let settle in a deep container and the laddle the butter off the milk solids. Now except for the milk and MJ solids all the THC has to be in the butter. Do something fun with the milk solids and the clarified butter will keep for a much longer time than before. (Maybe that is never an issue.)

    I don't think much of anything was left in the brown water... I didn't want to even touch it much less drink it...

    I'm not sure about the milk, I didn't use any.

    Use as much weed as you can spare, as lots of recipes don't call for that much butter... so there's a need to make it strong.

    The milk solids I refer to is what separates from butter when it is melted. Clarified butter is made by melting butter and heating to boiling. Butter is 30% water. When the water boils off a white material called milk solids separates and coagulates. When the butter stops boiling all the water is gone. As it cools the milk solids sink to the bottom. Cooks then ladle out the clear butter. This is used for fancy cooking. Cooks call the white stuff milk solids and shit can it.

    I think the white stuff in the fowl looking water is the "milk solids". If less water is used to make cannabutter then the water can be boiled off completely and the milk solids and other crap will coagulate and sink to the bottom of the clarified butter. Now you have Canna-Ghee.

    I saw a recipe for a cannabis spiked tea, so I assumed the THC must be dissolved into the water. Perhaps the THCA is merely converted to THC and the pot solids have to be ingested with the tea.

    Well I will have to the experiment when a grow comes through.

    Good, I didn't think the water affected the THC, I just want to make sure. Do you mind if I post a recipe for making cannabutter in a more straight forward way? Flavoring oils and butter is generally done in a different way and much faster too. Spiking can be done the same way.

    I will give a recipe thread a try.

    One more thing and I am done. I have noticed in OG Ganga recipes that the boiling (212F) time was for 6 - 8 hours. The above was done 155F - 175F for an hour. There is some sort of time-temperature THC actifying relation. In some thread on this site there were conversion times of 5 minutes at 300+F.

    A good possibility for the need for more MJ is that the time and temperature was to short and too cool. ??? Longer and hotter with convert more faster. Maybe someone reading this might know what those number are.

    Time vs Temperature for 99% conversion, anybody know???!!!

    From what i hear THCs point is like 200-250 somthing like that compaired to a lighter....i got best results staying within 100-190 i belive.

    If you smell that THC smell in the air different than just the greensmell, your loosing potencey.

    The above is some of the physical properties of THC. Please not the boiling point of 155C = 311F and that is at a fairly low pressure(vacuum). I also found the boiling point at atmospheric pressure to be 185C = 365F. So this matches up to numbers posted else where on this site. I have to some more sleuthing.

    Please also note that THC is slightly soluble in water and can be reduced by adding salt to the water.

    USDA says MJ contains between 3-15% THC. This thread's recipe uses 0.5 liters of water, so 1.4mg of THC can be in the brown water. If roughly 12g of MJ is used then there is between 360-1800mg THC available. So Hippie is right, THC is not soluble in water.

    There are some questionable recipes floating around. As for you new beer brewers don't waste your MJ on a batch of brew, the THC will not be extracted.

    I estimate you will need to pound 7-30 bottles of brew to get one hits worth of THC. I think my bladder is starting to get sore.
