![]() | Can you steep mushies for tea too long?
A FOAF is going to be travelling soon and is thinking of putting the crushed, dried fruit and hot water in a bottle, and not drinking it until later in the day. If the fruit is left steeping in warm water for say 5 - 6 hours, will that degrade some of the magic? Or does that just help pull all the magic out of the fruit as the day progresses?

mushrooms tend to turn to mush when steaped for tea after 20 min or so. the infuse will be fairly light in color for tea but it sure is damn strong. i'd recommend waiting and making the tea just before use as well to avoid the mushly sludge that preparation a few hours in advance will create. p.s. in my experience the water doesn't have to be super hot either, just until the water starts to boil. excessive heat is bad for psil. |

i simply bring a cup/mug of water to a boil, break up my shrooms into small pieces and throw them in the boiling water and let them boil for 15 minutes (i do not steep), then i turn off the heat, strain out the mushrooms/shroom-matter, and pour the liquid into a glass, and i add a tea bag, once i have tea i add a lot of ice and a lemon and sugar........works every time

The drug will slowly degrade and oxidize over time - to eliminate this from happening (well, not eliminate, but hinder) take either a lemon as Python suggested or use some crushed vitamin C tablets - the C works as an antioxidant and will keep your tea fresher longer. As far as shelf-life there's really no telling, imo, it all depends on how you make it; straight water I've seen kick the bucket within 12-24 hours. I've kept tea the following tea for extended periods (I'm talking a week here) and noticed no considerable loss, but it was also in the fridge, as well as having the lemons and C tablets. http://mycotopia.net/discus/messages...tml?1081172924 Wow that shit's way back when - lol - look at my post count: now that's some funny shit. EDIT: You can boil your tea for 10-15 minutes as Python says instead of heating it for an hour at 150 as suggested in my recipe - there is no noticable difference in degradation imo. Be carefull with keeping tea in the fridge unfrozen. I did that once with wild picked shrooms and I made the tea by simmering, not boiling, for about 5 minutes or so. Tea was good the first day then I put it in the fridge for a few days.Later when I went to take a swig it felt oddly grainy in my mouth so I held the glass up to the light only to see thousands of tiny pinworm maggots in the tea. Mmmm yummy!

It's not uncommon to get worms and maggots and clumps of dirt or cow shit in fresh shrooms and sometimes you have to skim em off the tea as it's simmering. But that was the only time I ever incubated a gallon of maggots LOL

If you've seen my tea tek that I previously posted, you'll see that I steep my fungus until they turn brown and slimy. This is key when making tea. Steeping past this point is a waste and stopping the steep before isn't getting all the actives. If you plan to store long term, simply can the tea with a 1qt jar. It will last for quite sometime in the refridgerator.

magic goes into the water from boiling and i throw shroom material out psilocybin has been seen to degrade at high temps........i believe it is said to start at 190F...........now boiling water is slightly higher than 200F but it has been seen many times that a short boil will not harm potency..... On that note........eggs in a pan may have temps too high and degrade the psilocybin....... gl |

He's a big boy (almost 20 lbs) and .2 Grams is all he gets but we seem to have a grand time together... The mere scent of weed sends him bolting out of the room though-to each his own I guess. Back on the topic of a year ago- I had a tea survive in a water bottle in my bag all the way to Hawaii, then sitting on the hotel dresser for 5 days till it was needed.
