    HI From Bangkok

It is now 8:53 in bangkok and it is Monday evening.
Here are some images I took Sunday.

Hi, Just arrived last night and here are some images from the first day.
The sun slowly and majestically arises over Bangkok as I go from the Gulf to get ready to land.

From the air over Bangkok, Thailand.

The Royal Palace from my Condo Window.

The Monument of Democracy where a few decades ago, hundreds of students where shot by the Thai military while protesting poor government.

This is an image a few blocks from the Monument of Democracy. The golden spire on the top left of the image is the Golden Mount which houses a Buddha Relic form his bones from India.

The top of the Golden mount.

And two lone specimens of Panaeolus antillarum found in elephant shit at the Royal Palace Gardens

Awesome pics, MJ! Keep them coming. Hope you're having a blissful time, and seeing some new sights (finding some good mushies too ).

Isn't it funny that no matter how exotic a location (to our individual perceptions at least), if it is somewhere that has been worked extensively by humans, its appearance is normally very similar from the air. What I mean by this is it's interesting how from a plane, it doesn't seem to matter what city it is you're pulling into...all cities over a certain size look more or less the same from the air. Sure, some places have identifying characteristics, and I'm sure that ALL places do have their own characteristics to the trained eye...but it's just interesting to take the perspective that all human architecture and modification of the natural landscape is carried out in a very similar fashion. Based of course in math and geometry. I love the patterns, and think it's interesting to imagine that to a hypothetical observer looking from far away...the differences between human beings or even human cultures does not become apparent until you telescope in very, very close. Just a thought (a long, bloated one at that).

    New From Bangkok

Leaving later today for Angkor Wat.

Here are ten images I shot on June 24th and I will post ten more in an hour or so. I have some lab work to conduct.

This first image is an alley walkway between two buildingas and in the walkway is a spirit house which had bottles of Fanta Strawbwerry soda as an offering to Buddha.
Big paintings on the walls of the alley way but cannot view them to well.

Two images of Thai Furit. The first in Mancoot (Mangosteen) This is the sweetest of fruits in all the world.

The second image is of Rambutan, A strawberry looking fruit which is related to Lei Chi. I did not like the latter.

Five imags of Banlumphu, the European districts Night Market (also opened in the day after twelve noon.

Here are sidewalk vendors, a bongo seller ($5.00 each) and a woodcarvers shop.

These two are tourists from Australia and they are in the MacDonalds ordering food and the girl is carrying and Elvis Presley strapped-bag over her shoulder.

These last images are of a marijuana project at the university

and a picture of Professor Sumalee who is the author of a popular Thai Mushroom Field Guide.

And one terrarium with three Copelandia cyanescens already popped out of fresh manured compost which my colleague started 9 days ago. But only three and no mycelia overtaking the composted manured. The manure was collected form the palace gardens dairy experimental farm and put into a terrarium.

Three images of the Ministry of Defence across from the Palace of the King. This large two block building has dozens of canons on it's lawn surrounding thebuilding, canons yused in evry war since Thais obtained the weaponry intheir past.

Here is a tank also at the Ministry of Defence and you can see some of the walled Palace across the street. Hindu and Pakistani vendors sell condoms and aphrodesiacs on the street across from the palace on tv trays while sitting on folding chairs.

one of the dozens of different located escalators at the MBK Mall on Phayathai Road down the street half a mile from Chulalongkorn University.

A lifesize model of the Daredevil stands on the sixth floor of the mall.

One of the two bangkok Sky Train Lines. This is a three level high elevated train built by Tahai-Italian cooperation. They also have a subway. This train does in ten minutes what takes a taxi or car a half an hour to an hour to travel.

Two images of a temple near the Palace and Banlumphu European District.

    and now for something special:

A Thai Pussy Cat: See the beautiful blue eyes of this Siamese breed with tiger stripes on its paws.

Well I have to go now, so I will connect in a few days and post some Angkor Wat finds for all of you. I hope it is good shrooming when I get there.

Somehow these three images did not post here at the thread.

This is an alley walkway between two buildings. In this walkway is a spirit house with two large paintings on each wall of the walkway.

In front of the spirit house are several bottles of Fanta Strawberry soda, an offereing to a thirsty Buddha. I noticed they also had straws in the bottles. The use of sodea as opposed to water is common at many spirit houses in city neighborhoods. usually it is water which is offered to the Buddha.

Every home and business in Souteast Asia has a spirit house to protect itself.

    Here are two images of some Thai fruit photographed on Monday ;

The 2nd is Mancoot (Mangosteen) the sweetest fruit in the world.

The 3rd looks like a hairy strawberry and is kn0own as Rambutan. IT is related to Leichi fruit. I personally do not like this taste, a bit bitter to me.

The 4th image is of a terrarium of Copelandia cyanescens 5 days after mixing the conmpost before I came. This has only three mushrooms and the layer of rye berry seed below the top has not yet spread into the rest of the terrarium compost of buffalo manure and rice paddie straw. This was sitting in the lab the day after I arrived.

This was part of a new thread I started but yesterday the pictures did not show up for some reason and when they did this was they were moved here, although i showed the shrooms.

    Oh well.

    mjshroomer

I will post some new Cambodia shroom and temple pictures tomorrow from the historical site of Angkor Wat and other temples and shrooms. There are some coming up.

hi mjshroomer, so good to know you are in Thailand. I live in Bangkok and study in Abac. I've seen your 4 years old post on shroomery.org about finding shrooms in some thai university. Could you please point me in the right direction where I could find some shrooms in Bangkok. No time to go to Samui!!

    Eastern Bangkok.

The wua are mostly owned by muslims int hat region. Look for wua manure or kwai manure.

Take a bus to Suphanburi Kwai farm.

Where ever there is manure of four-legged ruminants.

    mjshroomer

    My site is now at

    http://www.mushroomjohn.org

And yes, we picked Copes for our studies on campus in manured fertilized soil bought from a local market by campus gardeners, but that was two years ago now. They did not return after a few flushes

mjshroomer, did you mean suphanburi province just around 150 km from bangkok. But that province seems to be more of western part. Or there is another place on the east of bangkok that you mean?

The Kwai farm in Suphanburi is a few hours or so drive from bangkok.
    You should check it out.

If you speak some Thai, ask those where you work. Or at any TAT Authority olace or ever the Tourist Police could probably help you on the exact coordinates to the Kwai Farm.
This is a cool place and I think I have a page at my site under the Exotic Forays page.

A picture from my colleagues collection of my Thai images taken by Dr. Sihanonth in 2004 on a student foray.
