  | 12th La Feria del Hongo in Senguio, Michoacan, Mexico
We got there a couple days early so we could help with the sorting and naming of the mushrooms. This is the space: The lady in the middle is Aurelia, the main identifier for the fair.  The food tent:  Mushrooms began to arrive  These cars were loud  Mas setas  These were the vexing mushrooms. Paxillus, Catathelasma, Pholiota, Rhodocollybia maculata, an interesting black Albatrellus and Hypomyces chrysospermus. The chemicals are Melzer's reagent and 3% KOH.  This silhouette in this photograph is the legendary Cactu, photographing the mushrooms as they come in for processing.  Photographing the "interesting" table:  An Amanita from section Caesareae:  Sin comment  Here is a police officer, protecting the mushrooms. Carlos tried to buy us dinner but the restaurant wouldn't take his money.  People from the town enjoying the mushroom display tables     This girl gets an A+ for her goofy grin  People signing the visitor log  Carlos and the president of the city invite me to return to Senguio and bring my friends any time. Carlos promises tons of mushrooms, plenty of tequila and many girls. (Its nice to meet someone who has their priorities straight)  The city government of Senguio gave Cactu and I letters of appreciation for being trusted identifiers for the fair.  These girls were real nice.  The fair had several forms of live entertainment.  We met this guy at the fair. He turned out to be real cool and took us out mushroom hunting, with great success.  The fair had lots of informational speakers  With lots of celebrations and things of that nature  This guy is cool  This message was encoded using a vaguely effective encryption algorithm known locally as Inglés.  This kid was one of the alcohol vendors at the fair. He was really cool, fun to hang out with and kept giving me free drinks. Every time he appears in my photos, the photography gets a bit more erratic. On the left is a girl doing that "Mexican girl thing" where they look around a corner just enough to see you, but not enough so you can see them.  The queen of the fair, her friend, and the mayor of Senguio.  Aurelia, the main identifier for the fair.  Cactu and Aurelia having an urgent and heated discussion about mycology.  I spotted the mayor of Senguio drinking a beer and snapped this picture. He gave me a hilarious embarrassed look just after the flash went off.  Cactu and some friends  The raging party after the fungus fair.  Me.  Our friend. I can't remember if he was about to give us more beer or if he just had. Definitely one of the two.  The party went late into the night.  And everyone was having lots of fun  This picture needs no words to describe it. The guy on the right gave me an "oh crap" look when I snapped this pic, when I got home I realized the look was because he had his cell phone in his mouth.  More celebrations Mushroom graffiti was all over the town  This was my favorite  | ||
