Exclamation D'OH CANADA__SPORELAB SPONSORSHIP SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY

Unfortunately, in light of the preponderance of the evidence
we have been forced to conclude
that the Oh Canada strain sold by Sporelab the last year or so is
    bunk.

We have provided the evidence to Captain Max of Sporelab
but he refuses to acknowledge his error.

    THEREFORE
we have decided to sanction Sporelab for its' failure to deliver what it promised, to wit-
    a cold-fruiting cubensis.
Max has been unable and unwilling to provide hard evidence to the contrary.

    In light of this
    effective September 2007
    we are suspending Sporelab
    as a sponsor here,
we can no longer give good assurance in his behalf.

    Deal with him
    at your own risk.
When and if max acknowledges his error we will consider re-admitting him.
    until then, though,
    caveat emptor.

We've been a reliable spore vendor for over 12 years. The mere fact that one project - a difficult one which requires a longterm outdoor commitment and co-operation from Mother Nature - didn't turn out to be an overwhelming success doesn't change that.
if it were but just one example of your sloppiness
    we might let it slide.
    but there are numerous examples,
    from the false bluefoots
    http://forums.mycotopia.net/mushroom...ght=caerulipes
    &
http://forums.mycotopia.net/mushroom...-cubensis.html ('Psilocybe caerulipes' grow [false ID > cubensis])
then there was the false PE report on your own site-
    SporeLab-Forums :: View topic - Penis envy(or is it) on-Brf
then there's your disgruntled customer that you refused a refund to,
and several reports of contaminated syringes from you
    in the very recent past.
    http://forums.mycotopia.net/fungi-gr...dy-grow-2.html (getting ready to grow)
    etc.
    bogus cyans
    http://forums.mycotopia.net/431949-post21.html (Ps cyan invitro)

kinda hard to overlook it ALL.

As one can easily see, these particular Oh Canada spores are identical to cubensis spores but smaller.
Although they are similar, the coloration is somewhat different. But most importantly (besides size) is the distinctive cut-off end appearance of the spores. Cubensis has a germ pore but it never has that chopped off look.

    Quote:
I suspect these particular spores to be immature, likely harvested from one of a couple of the original mushrooms which were picked early to avoid the upcoming nights freezing temps.
Seems logical but immature spores aren't shed. If the mushroom makes a print, then those spores are mature. Immature spores are an issue if you only have a dried specimen to work with and you are looking directly at the gills at unshed or displaced spores. Even so, the Oh Canada spores are soooo much smaller that even direct observation of a cubensis gill wouldn't show spores like that.

    Quote:
    A. praecox (Spring Agrocybe, Early Agrocybe) does resemble a cubensis but is a spring mushroom.
It is true that this species fruits primarily in the spring, but it isn't that unusual for it to fruit in the fall as mention in the mushroomexpert.com website for that species.
