    greetings y'all, first post, question

    Hi everyone
Been reading and studying for the last few months about fungi consumption and growing. tried em for the first time about a month ago. Probably about 1.5 g semi dried. Sweetest feelin I ever dun experienced. At the ripe old age of 48 mind you.

Now I have 6 corn jars inoculated on 7/11/06. No signs yet. Now my question. I am incubating them in a box in a closet with no light and temp about 81 to 83 degrees. I read that alot of folks incubate in a tupperware/heater setup. Is this for temp and humidity control? My humidity in my closet is proly 40% or so.

Jars are one pint. 3/8 hole in top with poly.

Anyway, great friendly site. hope to be able to post some success photos like y'all.

    thanks

It's just to maintain temperature at this stage.Maybe to keep anything nasty that might be airborne out, though its unlikely that yr jars would be contaminated in that way.You have no worries as long as yr temp doesn't get any higher!

    Thumbs up

As far as incubatin goes, my foafs just stick em in the dark. back in the pc or a box or tub is nice to keep airfloe to min. but it seems like as long as your comfy with the temp, so r they. precise temps will speed things up a bit, maybe just a little warmer than comfy for some.(im cold natured and like it warm). of course a little change in temp upon birth does seem to help some. in my opinion(just opinion!!) far to many ppl wrry about gettin perfect temps incubatn. i think if your comfy sittin in your living room, find a place jus a little warmer(like a closet without an a/c vent)and your good 2 go. it sound like you got it good already so don worry just wait and see. as far as humidity, the jars are pretty much sealed up. humidity doesnt come into play so much til birthin. damn! 48, you are ripe! LOL just playin man. my mind still tells me im 20 but my body says "yeh, right, you wish dude!" 36 BTW peace pFost. ( I am no expert by any means, but i heard about it some LOL)

I leave mine on the kitchen table with no tape, as long as they are not in direct sunlight you really shouldn't worry about it. I've isolated them in the dark, Kitchen table works just as well.

Did you use tyvek to cover the tops of the jars? When I did my corn recently, I innoculated and it took almost a week if not a bit more to start seeing mycelium. But after that, and shaking a bit it ripped through the jar. Best of luck to you

    muchas gracias amigos

    thanks everyone

I do hope to see some growth soon. I was fairly careful with cleanliness but when I went to get some poly, I remembered it was the only ingredient I didnt buy. So I reached into a pillow on the sofa our dog chewed open and borrowed some poly from it. All went to the pc for an hour so I hope that wont be a contam issue.

I recently got some tyvek so I'll try that on the next batch. Tonight. Just got my quart jars today.

Every time I come home lately with item in hand, the wife looks at me and shakes her head.

Cant wait to post some pics of the new family members. Never to old to be a new dad.

    peace

Sometimes when you are using spores for innoculation it can take a while to see any growth. Have you checked out any Liquid Culture (LC) teks? You can save a whole lot of spores and create a whole lot of jars that develop quite a bit more quickly than just using the spores.

    BTW: Welcome!

    Talking They're here

Might I say I be sportin some wood right about now. Woke up this mornin to discover some lil goodies growin in me jars. Whipped up 12 more quart jars last night with a Mexican strain. Normally I kill silk plants.

Tis a shame I cant share the rewards. I'd be passing these out like cigars to yall. Box of Monticristo's anyone?????http://forums.mycotopia.net/images/icons/icon10.gif

Next step shall be LC. Looks fairly easy with a large payoff.

    thanks again
