Question Best way to use PF jars

foaf is about to have 8 pf-style jars fully colonized
already tried fruiting in a terrarium and would like to try something new
what would be the most efficient way to use them... yield being the main factor
    casings?
    or spawn?
can someone direct me to a good tek or give me some advice

    thanks

This may be better noticed in the Fungi Forum, Maybe a mod could move the thread?

Maybe one could…yah, pics in the photo gallery, please!

You could do some little casings with them, crumbled and cased. You could do some little bowls, just keep ‘em whole and case. You could slice them up into coins and DEC.

What kind of bulk substrate (poo) do you have available?

are these cakes all multispore or are they of cloned material?
if they're not all clones, i'd pull a big fruit off & clone 'em out. once you've done that you can use the new jars as spawn for anything else. crumble em up and off you go.
my suggestion would be to get some straw and spawn it to that. i'm planning on posting a thread about a grow that's still developing, but i'll give you a teaser for now to show what i'm talking about...

Spawning to bulk will give you more yield but you will have to wait for it colonize.

Mods- sorry for putting this in the wrong forum

    these are all multispore jars
i plan on doing some cloning once i have a few more projects under my belt
for now, i guess i will try a casing or two with a few of my cakes

as for bulk substrate, i guess i could get shit of some kind. I live in the midwest, so it should be easy to find horse, cow, or pig shit. Though ive never heard of anyone using pigshit

    Thanks for your suggestions

you can get coir at pet stores
    crumble cakes, mix with coir
then fruit, works wonders like bulk substrate but easier

    no pc needed,
just use boiling/hot water to moisten it,
the pet store 'bricks' use about 3 liters of water per brick
which is adequate to use ' as is ' once wetted

When fruiting cakes mixed with just coir, (no straw or poo) its best to keep the ratio close to 50/50 cakes/coir. If you spread the cakes to thin in a bunch of coir, they will have to use a lot of energy to colonize the coir and won't fruit very well. (or even fully colonize at all if the spawn is too thin)

These trays are just crumbled cakes and coir. No straw or poo.

(though mixing in some shredded straw does make a big difference- larger fruits and less spawn needed)

Do NOT use pig poo. Don't use poo from anything that eats meat. Bad consistency and really dangerous bacterias.

You want something big that eats a lot of fiber like a cow or a horse. Also, you want older poo that has set around and composted, not fresh poo.

Also no bird poo (duck, chicken, turkey). Too "hot" with nutrients.

Worm poo works real nice and has almost no smell at all.

Seldom since the age of 3-4 has a strong interest in poo been so expectable and healthy in American society.

But good poo, properly wetted, warmed, fondled and processed, is important in this hobby!!

Here is spawning to coir and worm castings:

That was popcorn spawn instead of crumbled cakes, but the process is essentially the same.
