![]() | Invitro Question
I am trying the invitro method with 1/2 pints, once fully colonized do I: 1)remove dry verm once colonized? 2)flip the jars over once colonized? (I have waterproof tape on the innoc holes) 3)do I open them up to breathe at all after colonization? |

Flip 'em over (top side down) and do nothing else. Whatever you do, DON'T open those jars, or you run a high risk of contaminating the jars.... Honestly, you don't even have to flip the jars, but I think it's an accepted practice, something about CO2 draining out... ![]() soliver |

You should really take the tape off the holes, air exchange is critical. The dry verm barrier on top works as a filter. 1. Yes once the cake is fully colonized you can open the jar and remove the dry verm to make more room. 2. After you remove the dry verm you should flip the jars and loosen the lid a bit. 3. Once you are in the fruiting stage you can unscrew the top and air them out a few times a day. Good luck bro. |

This is how I do mine. I give the jars as much light as I can from the get go. Once the jars are fully colonized, I take off the lids and water the vermiculite barrier to the point it won't hold any more water. Usually there's pins already forming by this point if you've provided enough light from the time they were inoculated. Then put the lids back on and simply allow the jars to fill up with mushrooms. Watering the barrier gives the cakes more moisture for fruiting. Just make sure they are 100% colonized before opening the jars and watering the barrier.
