Basically as much as needed. You want as close to 100% humidity as you can get inside your terrarium. If the walls are condensating you should be good. If they aren't I would mist the walls of the terr. not the cakes themselves. Good luck.

You may want to refrain from misting the cakes directly..especially if there are pins on them..More times than not the mist will damage the pins. Jesus has the right idea

you hopefully mean mist the vermiculite in the DE casing in which case the answer is
'as needed'.
many over-do it
but cakes don't use much water per day,
and you don't want to keep it soaking wet.
just damp.
so a couple squirts into the verm about every 3-4 days
is plenty, maybe just a bit more often if mushrooms
are actually growing right then.

all depends really... usually the second flush is quicker as the cakes are already in pinning "mode"... I'd say 3-4 days after a dunk for new pins, then another 3-4 days for growth, but sometimes it comes quicker, sometimes it's slower.

I'd also add that it depends on if the cakes are dunked prior to the flush... if the cakes aren't dunked, some heavy misting to the verm layer the first couple days helps hydrate your cakes then follow hips advice but if they are well hydrated (dunked) then you can and probably should skip the heavy waterings those first days in the FC.

Is there any findings that support this. I can't imagine in nature anything that stops growing simply because it's raining.

I have been spraying directly when they are fruiting and they seem to like it.

In fact I've been spraying directly on them 3 times or more per day and they seem to like it.

They don't stay drenched just by sprayed directly. On the walls the water simply pour down, and on top, if you check back in an hour, you'll find it dry.

Unless there's hard facts found against watering directly, I say more research here is needed.

the key, in my experience, lies right here-
Quote:
check back in an hour, you'll find it dry.
it's not the act of misting per se that harms pins,
it's stagnant water that sits on pins for prolonged time.
if FAE and evaporation are sufficient
then it's no problemo.

I'm in agreement with Hip on that. The particle size of the water droplets also matter, and the air circulation of the environment. Outside when it rains doesn't harm because there is no enclosed area, the air is constantly fresh and allows for immediate evaporation.
