Having a problem with my eq's... They look like they'll be fine..start off with nice pins..but when they get about ,1/2" or so, they turn blue..and just..die. :-/ Any suggestions? I think it might be a vent. problem..but I fan 2-3 times a day.. Thanks, Tele

It sounds more like you're misting them. You must stop misting when pins form, but you can start up again when they're one inch long. Don't use bleach in your misting water at any time you spray fruits. Even large fruits will turn blue and abort if sprayed with bleach water.

Thanks Rodger, but nah..no misting..these are just cakes sitting on AL. Foil in a humidified terrerium.. :-/ I took the cakes out and patted them down with some toilet tissue to help absorb some of the water that was on them..there was some residual moisture on them, and I think I soaked a lot of it up Thanks Tele

I honestly dont know what advise to give you off hand teletrue. The damage may have possibly came when you handled them. There is no need to wipe moisture off cakes. Its better just to leave them be.

lysol will also turn fruits blue with only a very lil amount, even if the mushroms have been picked. In a clean area, a clone was attempted with a cube, lysol was sprayed in the air and around the area, the uncovered stem turned completely dark blue almost instantly. BTW Lysol isn't good to use around your grow area, as i hear it causes mutations. In fact, i don't even spray the air around the glovebox with it n e more, as its just a simple surface cleaner. IMO a spraybottle of bleachwater works well. |

Now I'm really confused... I don't even use lysol, and I do use the bleach/water in a spraybottle...I don't have any chemicals in my tanks, just water, and perlite...I air them out several times a day. Oh well..guess I'll just have to wait and see.. Thanks everyone! Tele

tele, you proly need to dunk your cakes, it sounds like the cakes lack enough water to let the pins grow fully. Quote:

I did however notice that all the shrooms caps were opening and the shrooms were deforming and looking "sick" so I was able to make the change in just enough time to save several cakes. Bleach fumes can be harmful.

It's not cold shocking. Bacteria want to grow and multiply in water, so by dunking in the refrigerator, you keep the bacteria dormant until after the dunk. Be sure to also rinse the cake very well under the faucet after the dunk to remove the sludge and other slime that forms.
