Hopefully my spelling got your attention, now here's the situation: My friend had ordered a grow kit in the mail. Came with a mycobag with what i believe was print already in the bag, taped off to inhibit contact w/ the grain before its time. Then you undid the tape and released the little thing(looked like a roach) into the grain that was formerly seperated, shake vigorously and wait a few weeks for the grain to colonize. After colonization, my friend cut open the bag and mixed the colonized grain with some sort of compost. The mix was done in a medium sized plastic bin w/ small holes around the perimeter of the lid. It was washed out before use. The mix was spread evenly across the bottom of the tub and then the lid was placed on top, not to be removed for a number of weeks. i think the growth may have taken longer than anticipated because my friend lives in a basement and its generally cold down there. It had been taking a while for anything shroom-like to grow, so i suggested they put the bin on top of a heating duct which was within reach. Very soon after i was told pins were forming, i really wish i couldve seen the whole process. Anyway, the setup grew some pretty dandy fungal candy. I'm not exactly sure of the yield or any of those things, but it was pretty much a success. My question is: If someone had some sterile mycobags w/ an injection site, and some spore-filled syringes, is there any reason they couldn't inject the spores into the bags and re-create the conditions previously used w/ success?? About the bags - Let's say some of them were designed for fruiting completely in the bag. Could they still be removed from the bag and mixed w/ shit like last time, even though they're said to be for fruiting IN the bag? I figure spreading it out causes more growth. Also one last question, if someone were to get their own poo, is fresh cow dung ok? If not, what's good for some cubes? |

1. Yes http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=14210 (spore printing pictorial) http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=5001 (Make spore syringes/pouches - Airport in action) 2. Yes. Just break up the colonized grain while it is still in the bag. Then dump it into your pre pasteruized poo, straw, coir, castings, or combination there of. 3. No, not fresh. You want it to be good and aged. It will resemble very rich dirt more than it will cow shit. If the patty is good and dry you can sometimes pick up the whole thing in one piece. |

I thought i mighta read somewhere that good dudu was well aged, thanx for the voucher. I kinda thought it wouldn't make a difference w/ the bags. Someone thought it'd be good to keep some in the bags and then try the other way simultaneously, to see what happens. As for the links(1.), I'm guessing youre saying itll be all good as long everything is clean?? Useful info nonetheless. With the bags; what if someone waited for them to fruit well one time, next pick clean and cleanly, THEN break up the stuff and spread it throughout the poo after the 1st fruiting? Could that work? The bags are supposed to fruit multiple times. |

That will work but waiting for a flush then breaking up that sub to spawn to more sub will wear the myc out. It will make the mycelium work much harder to recover which could potentially lead to an inadequate flush. If I were you I'd just let them continue flushing and start another project to spawn to a large amount of substrate. Quote:

Yesterday was a great day! the mycelium was spread throughout the manure that was picked up. Didnt know if the right stuff was gotten, the manure didnt look quite like the stuff from the first batch. I looked at the bag after it was found it said it was "manure mixed w/ some organic compost", there were a few twigs and rocks in it and those were removed from what i saw. The manure was first mixed w/ some perlite, btw, i think thats good. Looked at it today, and it looks like its spreading already! I'd heard these were very rizzomorphic, and i'm really impressed!!! A 2 lb bag was colonized in barely 3 weeks. Anyway, Life is all around good. I know this summer is going to be one to remember! my dreams have all been coming true. I just wanted to thank everyone and everything that's helped make that possible along the way. That probably includes everyone on this site in some way, information and/or otherwise. Im ECSTATIC! have a good weekend etc. Ill keep u posted.

It's been about a week now since i did the mix, and things are still looking very well in the monotub. i can see some little brown orb-like thingies forming in the mycelium . i don't own a camera but I might be able to borrow one from a friend relative at some point. But that won't be til i get some final definitive results.

AWESOME!! I got my first contaminants yesterday!! I was gazing into the tub as i do from time to time, and i saw an off colored green growing on top of the mycelium!! I didn't know what the fuck to do right off hand, so i opened it up for a closer look. That was my first time taking the lid off; i was tempted to one other time cuz i saw a pube stuck on the wall of the inside of the tub, but i resisted. Removing the lid revealed two other little green spots beginning to form on the surface. I got real anxious to get rid of them, so i washed off a spoon and dug out the little patches of green, then recovered the tub. Today i opened it up and there was another little green spot. I thought i remebered reading something about using hydrogen peroxide on the green spots, so i went and got some of that and dabbed the nasty spots, then dried them off. I hope the whole project isnt fuct, it was just 3 little spots of light green, and the tub is a 58 qt bin. It LOOKS like parts of it are ready to fruit, but now i'm getting worried. After doing more reading, i can see how flawed my design was and i hope to try other teks in the future. I hope the survivors can make it, they're puerto rican, if that makes any difference. Helpful links/suggestions would be appreciated. |
