Question Freaks' straw log super charged?

I have some B+ jars ready to birth, I want to use Freaks' mini log TEK, ala bleach, then lime and so forth. Is there anything I can add to the log such as coir than has be microwaved to help produce better results? I have only access to coir so that is why I am asking. How about a slightly over bleached amount of timothy hay as an additive?

You can always play around with additives. Ofcourese that mean you are complicating the tek a bit. Never messed with Tim hay but I dont think its as good as straw so its addition will be a bit pointless. Coir would be ok and so would poo but if you want to keep it simple verm mixed in at a 25% rate really increases the water resevoir and helps flushes greatly.

Thanks for your help once again! I will be adding just a 'touch' or 25% amount of verm' prior to spawning my B+ Cakes. By the way, I have a jar that I forgot to 'knock up on Aug. 8th in the inncubator, do you think I can still 'knock it up? No contamination in the jar.

Dial8 gives great advice. The coir mix with the straw would work well I'd think.

Please be sure to let us all know how it grows

I think he said to add 25% vermiculite, not coir....what do you think?

Yes he did say 25% verm to add to the straw which will be a simple addition and act as a h2o resevoir.

The coir will also work, and will also help in reserving water.

Really its going to come down to your choice. I'd go with coir simply because verm is so hard to come by these days in my parts. Also I find coir to work as a good binder with the straw.

just curious as to how this was going?

coir or verm does seem like a great idea to kinda puff up the straw and maybe give a little leeway with water content. foaf thinks failures in some freaky straw bags was due to insufficient draining - too much bleach still on the straw. bags that did work were slow for foaf and would pbb have gone thru much faster if puffed with something. foaf also had problems mixing broken up cakes with a huge wad of straw at the bottom of the bag - wonders if putting contents in and shaking would be bad since little slivers of straw and gunk get all up the necks of bags (has been done once, lead to some funny myc patches up near zipper!

maybe all mixing woes would be alleviated with birdseed..would weave right in to straw. interested in superspawning too - might work for the humble cake user.
