Finding Agar

Any suggestions on somewhere I can find some agar locally opposed to online? I'm planning on cloning so SA. Oh yea, also some petri dishes or any substitute for them. I live in northeast if that helps.

or health food coop with an asian foods section. probably more expensive than the real asian market, but that's where i got mine, and a little goes a long way. petri dishes... lab supply company? check the yellow pages and pretend to be a homeschool father, doing some bread mold experiments with the younguns. an expensive (but reusable) alternative to dishes is small canning jars (like the little jam jars). The neat thing about those is that you can pour the agar before the PC run (loosen the lid before PCing though, and tighten after it cools. The changing pressure can create an agar bomb if the lid is sealed). Then you've got a sealed dish of perfectly sterile agar that you didn't have to pour in a cramped glovebox.

If you want local, Cleaned baby food jars work great for agar. Pretty cheap for glass too. Just an idea. I've used them before with great results.
