saving contam cake

has anyone had any success with saving a cake from contaminents? I have a HW cake 70% colonized and I see a small amount of trich in the 1/2 pint jar. Trich is about 1/4" in dia.

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it. Any time I see any signs of contams, back into the PC they go and I kill whatever contam is there before even opening the jars. It just is not worth it. Have a contam jump into your lungs and I guarantee you will be doing the same and not even attempting to save anything. I also do not like to risk contams spreading to other/or future grows. If you make a liquid inoculant with a cc of your spore syringe, you can literally make hundreds of jars from one syringe. All your out is some time, verm and brf.

I had a pint jar do that and the myc overtook the green. I birthed the cake and there was a small spot not colonized and sure enough the green came back in that spot. I took it out of the FC very carefully as to not allow anything to contaminate the rest of my cakes. I was curious and cut into the cake around the green and found it only grew in about an inch and about 1/4" diameter. So I figured hell lets see what happens and I crumbled up the rest of the cake and mixed it in with some poo compost and now it has fully colonized, been cased, and its colonizing the casing very well with no green monster. Like I said though I think I just got lucky.

It can be done definitely. I am just not one to suggest it after my three month ordeal. Just please be very careful. Damaged lungs are no fun at all.

You can take the cake outside and remove the trich with a knife.
Sometimes the trich goes deep into the cake and it can't be saved.
A bleach dunk can help too.

then plop back into the jar? or use new jar?

cut out the contam, and cut deep.

bleach dunk it.

it might work.

rule of thumb: if you can see colors, it's probably too late.

however, if you can isolate the cake (that's why i love invitro growing) then it's worth a shot to salvage it.

200:1 ratio or 4 tsp bleach per gallon of water ( a little over a tablespoon approximately)
