    Cubes on straw

I took a colonized pf jar of cubes and mixed it with
pasteurized straw in a plastic tub. The straw is now
    fully colonized and very healthy.
I understand that casing would be best but has
anyone done this without casing? The reason I ask
is I have legendary levels of contams anytime I case.
If I do just the cakes, they will also fall to contams
over time. I want to try to initiate pins without
    casing the straw.

We have Hawaiians going right now on straw without a casing. They normally prefer one too. Your good.

I heard adding coir to the sub eliminates the need for a casing entirely.

casing generaly just produces more flushes, helps to keep the rh lvls up to. straw contams sooner usually than other bulk subs anyways so multiple flushes are harder to achieve anyways
