mushrooms growing and geotropism

Greetings all
My first post here and i must say i am greatly appreciating all the information but today while looking at some of my grain jars that are starting to grow mycelium i had to wonder weather mycellial growth is afected by gravity or not. I found a few references to geotropism in the fruiting bodies in the absence of other stronger influencing factors like photoperiodism. I can see that this could be usefull for mushrooms in order to distribute spores but i have no idea as to weather similar factors can affect mycelial growth. Any info, theories or mad scientist experiments would be of great intrest to me.
Thanks Mark

just an idea for an experiment.slowly rotate a blacked out grow chamber but interior light source remains in same position to jar.

Bending mushroom stems follow some regularities that are not common in plants. After turning into horizontal position the mushroom stem starts bending near the cap, as some signal about the improper orientation is sensed there and then gradually transmitted towards the base. But very soon, well before reaching the normal vertical orientation the apical part (region C in the figure below) starts to straighten. Finally this part gets straight again, and the curvature concentrates near the base of the mushroom.

Mycelium doesnt seem to be affected by gravity..its grows out in all directions evenly.

Thanks for the replies. That would make sense to me as it would make sense for the mycelium to colonize in all directions based on nutrient availability. I have a month or so to go before i return to work so i might have to do some experiments just to be sure after all can you ever have to much mycelium around the house.
