| Question about Invitro
Teks I've been reading are saying that you should give your cakes light throughout the colonization process in order to speed up pinning. I wonder about the logic of this, since giving cakes light slows down colonization. slow colonization, quick pinning. vs. fast colonization, slow pinning. It seems to me you're just trading the time of one phase for another. Am I wrong? |

I don't know...I seem to get about the same colo speeds either way. Just my experience though, and I've never done a side by side with an iso or anything. I would THINK that the lack of cells touching each on the edge of colonization would be the major growth signal to the fungus. Moreso than light would slow it down. That and my incubator fills up really quick with using spawnbags. It could also be species dependent too. I started a bag of cyanofriscosa that is growing pretty slowly, so I might try removing it from light and seeing if it picks up...
