I'm a pickle eat'en fool. So I always keep my 1 gallon pickle jars for wbs spawn. I've got 2 of them saved so far. As far as I know, 1/2 gallons are the largest i've seen from Ball or Kerr. Here's a nice link for all kind of jars.

I got a suggestion that would def score ya some free jars and such, but ya gotta be willing to get into an awkward conversation witht the manager of a restaurant. Just go into a pizza place or sumthin and ask if they will save some empty containers for ya, usually hot peppers come in half gallon plastic, some hot sauce comes in big clear containers that could also be used as terrariums or something. You could prolly even score some 5 gallon pails too. Good luck thinking up a reason you need all that stuff though

just bumping this post to say that since 05 when this thead originated,
many folks have switches to the super inexpensive hdpe/plastic jars/containers
for use in brf/wlj tek(s), traditional grain spawn prep, and the like.
i recommend ditching mason jars and the hassle of trying to find tapered (or un) gallon+ size etc etc,
and looking into other alternatives. Especially if having them mailed to you from an internet entity. i only say this because for the price of 24 large mason jars (glass) with lids, one could get a gross of the plastic jars/tubs/containers. sometimes theyre referred to as 'deli containers' hope this helps!

I am like lazlo a big pickle eater. I get my pickles at sams club the restraunt size 1 gallon pickle jar. And yes like cap says mason jars are expensive if you buy them new. I can go to the flea market and get them for basicly nothing and a few months ago I was under my grandmas house and she had a few hundred jars she used to use for canning so she just gave them to me all I had to do was buy the lids that were only a few bucks.
