Slow Pin Growth...
So I have a mono-tub with about a 4" substrate layer, straw, castings, coir and verm. 14 quarts of substrate to 6 quarts of rye spawn layered. I choose not to apply a casing layer, and ended up seeing by far my best pinset ever for my first flush. It has been 7 days since I first started seeing pin clusters appear and every day I see more and more clusters spring up, to the point that I'd say ~90% of the substrate has pins on the surface.
The problem I'm noticing is that very few of the pins seem to be maturing past pin or button size. Normally I would expect to have full maturation from about day 7-10 but in this case I'm starting to worry that the majority of them are aborting. The few pins that have grown past button size, are very small in comparison to similar bins first flush fruits and I would even describe them as something I would pull off a 1/2 pint cake. I have never had this many pins growing during my first flush so I don't know if the fact that the mycelium has to support so many fruit bodies could be contributing to.. aborts or slow growth?
