    Flowhood Air Sterility Distance
    How many inches/feet can someone expect to have "sterile" air when using a flowhood? I've seen hoods with and without sides in front of the filter and was wondering if the sides increase the sterile air flow.

    The extensions on all sides of the flowhood increase the distance for sterile air flow. The edges protect from non-sterile air from invading your work space. There is no set length that air will travel as flowhoods vary in cfm ratings, shapes and size. There is a simple test for adequate airflow by assuring that the flame of a candle is bending 90 degrees when lit, while in front of the flowhoods discharge.
