![]() | I started a small amount of LC about a week and a half ago and just now checked up on them. Four, pint jars with Polyfill filters and two self-sealing injection ports with a 4% natural Honey liquid each inoculated with B+, Pan. Tropicalis, Mexicana A or Galindii misnamed as Atlantis#7. The jars were relatively clear for honey (almost no suspended proteins) I saw no or possibly a little germinating growth on the B+ and Trop. I looked at the A strain and Galindii and was very happy to see a noticeable amount of mycelium. I injected some air with a sterilized syringe with poly filter to aerate and stir up the culture and what I thought was Mexicana A mycelum happened to be suspended proteins floating around and quikly re-dissolved. The Galindii is growing healthy white mycelium though for sure! The LC's are being held at warm room temp approx. 72-78 deg. I like the idea of using Honey though it seems after browsing threads here it seems that potato dextrose with Karo or Malt or the Karo with Yeast looks promising. All spores were procured through www.sporeworks.com and syringes prepared Jan/08 so viability should be of little concern. I do not use a stir plate or any other agitation technique other than what I outlined above. I would like to know if anyone has ideas on the fairly fast germination and growth of the Galindii and the slow or possibly non-germination of the other species. Maybe the B+, Pan, and A like a little warmer incubation? About 80-85 deg? Maybe they would like a little more varied liquid nutrient solution such as malt, potato dex&Karo? I think with my next batch of LC I will use Honey with a little nutritional Yeast. I should also invest in or fabricate a stir plate. I may also create a filtered air injection system. I would like to keep things simple though if possible. If it takes a more technical approach to have good results I will do what it takes. I appriciate any help from those experienced in LC on this topic. Thanks! P.S. I will try to post pics of Galindii LC soon. |

![]() | LC 15-20 min @15psi. No caramelization or heavy particulate or suspended proteins. One jar had some proteins suspended which dissolved quickly upon swirling the jar. As far as the polyfill filters I am very careful to not get the LC on them when moving the jars. On my next LC project I will use Pint instead of half pint jars or possibly quart and create an inline polyfill filter in combination with an air pump as I do not have time to manually aerate and stir the jars. As I understand it can take up to a week for spores to germinate in an LC. So I will see how it looks in a couple more weeks. |
