    fully colonized, but no fruit....

hey all, a foaf made up about 50 jars of cambo, made from a piece of colonized agar blended in water, then immediately injected into jars. all but one fully colonized, and he used about 20 of them as spawn into a poo/straw/verm mix in a monotub. previously he used the same method, from the same piece of agar, and worked perfectly. this time the spawn colonized rapidly, got cased as usual, and then nothing for over a month, when contams were finally introduced. he then tried to fruit the cakes themselves, and out of 10 cakes got 4 mushies. the cakes he has now are still in the jars, they were refrigerated for quite some time, then taken out and they finished colonizing the pint jars. question is, do you think they are all bad? and if so why? anyone ever experienced this before?

It doesn't happen very frequently, but sometimes you get a substrain that is just a dud. Not very common, but you can get a substrain that simply will not fruit, no matter what you do with it.

There were a few Albinos floating around a good while back which had this problem. They ripped through colonize the substrate and then...nothing. Just a big tub of mycellium waiting to contaminate. Fuckers wouldn't pin no matter what I did to 'em.

The bummer thing is that if all your jars came from the same agar...they are probably all the same substrain...which means they will all probably have the same problem.

BUT, it could be worse. Also in the "not frequent but it does happen" category: mushrooms with almost no psilocybin in them. Sadly, I've seen that one too.

If you think a shitload of cakes that won't fruit is a bummer, try having a shitload of fruit with no magic in it...

Might be time to try tossing it in a shady spot in the yard before the next rain (or soak it w/ the hose) and see if it might trigger a flush. I've salvaged a lot of mushrooms over the years from 'failed' grows that I moved outside. Good Luck!
