![]() | Old Spores, Stalled Cakes So SWIM had some old spore syringes from several years back (B+ five years old and half a syringe of TC which was four years old). The B+ never germinated but the TC's did and have almost fully colonized two jars. The third jar isn't moving as fast. Anyway, one of the jars is at 95% and is pinning invitro. There's still a section at the top of the cake (bottom of jar) that hasn't been covered yet and it doesn't look like its going to. It's been a while since SWIM has done this and he is wondering if he should go ahead and birth it or dunk it? SWIM isn't expecting a large crop from this grow, (just 3 cakes) but is planning on making some new spore prints to trade for other strains. SWIM was surprised that they took being so old.

![]() | Well, SWIM followed that advice and it looks ok...I wonder how hard it will be to get that cake out when those mushrooms get bigger. I'm also wondering if this is actually the TC or the B+. This doesn't look like the TC I remember seeing but then again, SWIM has never let them go this long in a jar.

![]() | Those tall, tapered jars are more difficult in removing cakes. You should use the short, widemouthed 1/2 pints. Still you can smack the jar on a phonebook to loosen the cake up. The fruits will conform to the jar's shape. As far as IDing the strain, that is tough as cubensis strains look a lot alike. Mark the jars in the future. Good luck. |
