![]() | Help on contams and technique I'm wanting to minimize the dreaded Green mold attacking my Bins. I'll describe the process and you can tell me if I'm doing something wrong or need to change. The grain I use is wild bird seed which is innoculated with Liquid Culture. I have no problems with this because I can safely maintain 0% contamination. I wash bins down with soap and water and dry. I do not use a disinfectent because I found it causes Rosecomb. Mycellium is scooped into the bins, then covered with a 50/50 coir/poo mix. That is left to colonize until 80-90 %. This is then covered with a 50/50 peat/verm layer. This is allowed to colonize and then fruiting is initiated. Sometimes I get a contam at this time, other times I get contamed after a flush. The peat/poo/verm and coir are pasturized before being added. I wash my hands and spray a disinfectent in area. I read about adding lime. I have dolomatic lime. I know its not the right lime because of the magnesium. Do I need it though? Will it minimize contams or just make them better? The fruiting chambers have a mister and air pump, so nice and humid. There is also a pc fan to air out the bins. Thanks for the help! |

![]() | get rid of the peat and you won't need lime. it's 50/50 poo/coir bulk, right ? you don't really need a casing and since that's when/where the trich hits i'd just skip the casing. and increase your fresh air exchanges too, trich loves stagnant air.
