    How Big Is Your.......PC

I'm in the market for a PC and was wondering what quart size I should look for. I really don't see myself doing more than maybe 10 1/2 pint jars at a time. I'm looking for something that can fit at least 5 at a time so I only have to PC twice.

So how big are yours Topia.

My AA941 holds from 18-22 Qt jars per run, depending on if they're widemouth or regular...

Hey I dont mean to nitpick but an AA 941 will never hold 22 qt jars. I can fit 19 or 20 in there.

But anyway you wont regret getting some kind of All American PC like a 925 or 930 or even a 941 and replacing the weight with a toggle vent pipe from store.wafco.com. Or if you have the skrill a All American sterilizer is the best you can get, difference is a liner basket and 2 toggle vent pipes. You can run this at 20psi if you want. With the vent pipe mod on a regular AA you can do 17psi safely, but the rubber overpressure plug I'm not sure what psi it blows out at so I dont go to 20psi.

jeezus chris idk where you guys go to get your pcs, i went to bed bath and beyond, where they sell pcs only for hobbits apperantly, i can only fit five half pints, or four pint jars in mine, and it cost me eighty, wtf

    i want a bigger one

oh but yeah another big thing to look for when buying pcs, is the metal weight on the top. make sure its removable, and they have other weights in different sizes, that way if you dont wanna sterilize you wanna pasturize instead, all you gotta do is change the metal weight and no guess work

Ok. But what quart size should I look for? 8 qt? 10 qt? could 6 qt work? I'm on a tight budget.

Let me rephrase: I want to fit at least 5 half pint wide mouths jars in a PC. What is the smallest I could go with?

    Thanks

I don't know, but maybe it was cause some of the jars were from the goodwill, but somehow I got 22 in there before.. The store bought ones I usually buy though will fit 18-20. Perhaps they were some real oldschool shorter fatter ones or something, but I swear that I fit 22 before, honest.

I hope you find something good firerat. One of the things this hobby seems to teach is "seek, and ye shall find", so just keep on keeping your eyes open . If you ever can budget a bigger PC, it's pretty darn worth it IMO. I have an AA 925, and it's not HUGE but I loves it. It wasn't exactly cheap though...and I could still see the need for a bigger PC!! Sterilizing spawn bags full of rye or some such thing is still pretty hard in something this size; definitely can't fit more than one or two sizeable bags at once. Working with jars is made very easy, on the other hand. The All Americans can fit a lot of damn jars! G' luck, you've probably already found something good by now.

I'd look for one with a pressure gauge.

Hes only looking to cook a few half pint wide mouths. I think he will outgrow it soon enough.

Figured that might be the response. I think I may wait till I can either find a good one cheap or I can afford one.

    Thanks for the advice.

Im sure you are a seasoned ebay veteran, but if not try to snipe the auction at the last second. Dont inflate the price before hand with any bids days before, and when there are 15 seconds left on the auction place your highest bid. Make sure you sign into ebay before you start your countdown in the last minutes (D'oh!)

I know this had been said already but if you get one that holds only 5 1/2 pints in won't be long before you kick yourself for not getting a bigger one. The larger one will pay for itself over time by not having to pay the increased power bills from having to do multiple pc runs. I would get All American if u can as well. There really isn't any substitute for an AA IMO.
