![]() | How To: FAE w/o Contams? What's the safest way using the BRF method? Loose lid? Removing the micropore tape and believe in the verm barrier? Im rather a puss since I put alot of effort into my projects just like you all but I would hate to spoil it because of a botched job. Also, pros and cons of FAE because as of now, my project is coming along rather well but growth seems to be stunted (possibly because of no FAE) Little help? Thanks! |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Once a cake is fully colonized and been put in the FC with a good amount of FAE its very very unlikely they will get trich. Either holes covered in micropore tape or the monotub style are very efficent for FAE and will aloow it so you are not always have to fan.

![]() | Vermiculite barrier will work just fine, but it needs to be fine vermiculite. I haven't had a contaminated jar yet. I only put masking tape over my holes for sterilization, and then remove the tape in the glovebox. The trick is, just don't go shaking the jar, or the "barrier" will shift, since it's not a solid. That's when contaminants can get down into your actual cake. Also, make sure the barrier fills up the jar. There cannot be any air space in the jar - just PF mix cake + barrier. |

![]() | I think he's talking about incubation and while they are still in the jar.But yeah just remove the tape as soon as you knock em up.As long as you put them in a sterile place and try not to shake the dry verm out you should be okay |

![]() | Yeah, I was reffering to the incubation period. The verm I have is somewhat fine but not the greatest. Some jars range from 40% - 80% colonized and it's been 20 days so I figured the FAE might be whats hindering their growth. Im thinking what I should do is use a bleach mix, spray it in the incubator and wait about half an hour until the ammonia smell has subsided, then remove the tape while in the incubator and seal it up and leave it for a week and a half. By then they should be good to go |
