    Karo syrup question

I know this has probably been asked before but is there an alternative to Karo syrup ? I have looked in two major super markets here in the UK and they do not sell Karo syrup. I know outside of the states it's known as glucose syrup or corn syrup but I can't find it anywhere. Where do all the folks on Topia from the UK get your corn syrup or what do you use instead? All I have managed to find is about 8 brands of maple syrup and treacle syrup.

Can glucose power mixed with water be used instead (as thats the main ingredient I believe) ? Really want to start some cloning work but this Karo stuff is a pain in the ass to find.

Many thanks for any help or advice.

    Hey Raz-
    Here are some Karo alternatives:
Dextrose, maltose, honey, or 1/2 teaspoon of brown rice flour (very very fine so that you can suck it into a needle later)

I am almost sure you can use potato water (boiled taters or instant flakes)

I would also think that glucose would work for an lc, probly also maple or pancake syrup or anything with lots of corn syrup/sugar in it (even 1 sugar packet in 250 ml water)
try a few things and see if it works.

When my next multispore shows up, I was going to try a potato water + honey LC. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Raziel-
btw if you run across a bottle of karo later, snatch it up.
Karo is super easy and always comes out clear after cooking, which is a big plus.

    Inka-
Use tater water, OR honey, not both. IMO, in this application less is more.

Great news thanks for the help

I have loads of honey at home so I will try that (the thick/solid none clear light yellow stuff type) If I use honey how much honey to water ratio do I use and do I pressure cook the jar with the mixture in it and how long ? I will be reading up on some teks when I finish work but just want to get a idea of what's required.

karo is just light corn syrup with a tad of vanilla.

I would steer clear of tater water or honey. Both tend to give you horrible LCs with lots of sediment. I plug this tek as often as possible cause it works really well for me where I have had terrible luck with LCs in the past. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/show...3/Main/7492940 Although maybe I should do my interpretation of it and post it here.

use 1 teaspoon of honey per 250 ml of water, which is a perfect fit in a half pint jar. you will pc the mixture @ 7 psi for 30 minutes max. I have carmelized the sugars (bad, but not necessarily catastophic when it happens) cooking longer than 30 or at a higher pressure than 5-7 psi

You will NEED the following items:
    An Airport
    http://forums.mycotopia.net/jars-bag...t-re-deux.html (airport re-deux)
    Thanks, Hip

and you will need siliconed injection lids like these
    http://forums.mycotopia.net/jars-bag...tion-port.html (Self Healing Injection port??)

Personally, when I make LC's I mix up the recipe in a measuring cup and distibute it equally into 3 glass baby food jars. I use one jar and store the other two in th fridge for future use. The lids are metal and I either nail 2 holes in the lid and silicone them up or drill one larger hole right in the lid center and then stuff an orange foam type earplug in the hole. When the earplug was used, no airport was needed. I highly reccommend using the airport and silicone though, just to be safe.
I would try one honey jar and one glucose jar at the same time and see which works better.
Dextrose is the base ingredient of glucose.
