![]() | Casing with verm?
I am planning on taking two of my half pint Mazatapec cakes (BRF) and doing a pie tin casing. I am going to use tupperware for size purposes. I plan to put about 3/4" of verm on the bottom and 1/4" on top of my crumbled cakes. By the way they are dunking right now and this will be my second flush. My main question is, do I need to cover my tupperware and keep it out of the light until mycelium reaches the top layer? Also, do I need to mist the top layer of verm at all before I move to a FC?

I wouldn't case the bottom at all, just doesn't do much for the grow in my experiences. I would incubate the casing for a few days, just until you see mycelium poking through the top casing layer. And you want your top casing layer to be moist at all times--without soaking the mycelium or pins. You also likely won't get stellar results since you already flushed the cakes once. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying a different thing with all my second flushes, just to see what I like the best. Does that make any sense???? I am so stoned right now.

Good luck!!

Jammer offers solid advice. If you put a large amout of casing on the bottom, the cake will expend energy growing myc out into it. You might try experimenting with a 50/50 coir/verm casing. Performs a little better and easier to tell when to add moisture (coir changes color as it dries).
