    tiny little white mites on caps

    my 2 shrooms are about ready but ive a question before i pick them, should i dunk them in water first? they have tiny mites on the shroom heads.... :S

    Don't dunk actual mushrooms, just the substrate. Mites are bad, and I highly suggest going overboard on your next cleaning (and I mean the whole house, not just the room they're in). A bleach dunk might get 'em off your cake, but they're still going to be hanging around waiting for your next grow.

    Pics would be great; we don't hear about mite problems very often.

    Mites normally take a while to become established , so not usually a problem..
    They can come in with compost and old poo though..
    You can rinse or wipe them off when harvesting. They would fall when drying the mush too...

    I have a small commercial gourmet/med farm and mites are our second biggest problem behind mold. Anytime I find a straw log infested with mites I toss the whole thing out. I know it's a waste but it's worth saving the entire farm.

    The little bastards can't fly but they can be transfered from block to block on other flying bugs, especially those little red and black beetles.
