![]() | Sterilization I sterilize the spawn bags completely sealed in a 25X All American Steroclave, however I have problems because with the increase of volume some of them blowup. Can I sterilize the grain in the bags open, or only semi-closed? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah don't seal them until after the sterilization. But like Myc said, make sure to fold and roll and clip the loose tops, so that after sterilization, you can just unroll the top a bit and seal it without sucking in any outside air.

![]() | i do mine unsealed, with the top neatly folded down and layed on itself. Use regular cheap scotch tape to tape the excess bag in place to itself. Then when the pc is cool, remove them directly into your flowhood stream one at a time. Fill the bag with sterile air from the flowhood AND innoculate it through the open top at the same time with G2G or LC or whatever. Grasp the top of the bag closed while trapping in as much sterile air as possible and twist it closed. Use a wire tie to seal the bag. This is the most reliable way I have found to do spawn bags.

![]() | Problem solved then. The filter patch is designed with gas exchange in mind But it can't handle the rapid transfer of steam and hot gasses released by pc'ing. The unsealed top acts as an over-pressure relief. After cooling the bags can easily be handled in a glovebox. I just used some clear packing tape to seal them after innoculation So I could take them out of the glovebox and seal them properly. Good luck! |
