worm castings+lime in a pf style jar?

Hey guys, what's up? I am about to do my second grow and I have some questions. I wanna add a half teaspoon of castings to my pf cakes but don't have a pc, do you think if I had a bit of lime to the mix it will stop contaminates? I'm also thinkin about doing a couple of jars with saw dust, wheat bran and calcium carb, has anybody tried this?

Its your 'second grow' and you're already experimenting. What are you a mad scientist just kidding just kidding, of course you are otherwise you wouldn't be here, right?

However: without a pressure cooker, you're gonna have a hell of a time with sterilizing your substrates. Best to keep it simple til then.

Was your first grow successful? Are you looking to improve on what you've done or just making use of what you have?

You might be able to, with an extended steam time but if you have castings it would be more productive to break up a colo'd plain BRF cake and mix with the WP in a tray..

Wheat bran has about a 2.5% N content , so should colo pretty well - It just won't hold as much moisture compared to using a bran/verm combo ..If your gonna spawn it to something then it wouldn't matter that much..

I'm actually still not quite done with my first one but it is going real good. I did regular p.f. with B+ and I have spawned 2 of the 10 jars to a bread loaf pan, with straw, castings, verm, and lime, just to see and they mycellium started to take over the pan in 2 days. It actually looks like it has started to form primordia already! The mycellia looks like little balls or knots! Everything I have read seems to suggest that lime or calcium carb is a good way of preventing contamination, right? Yeah, the reason I wanna try this is because my first cakes took a little more than 2 weeks to colonize, I'm thinking the substrate might have been packed in too much or to moist?
