With the high heats dropping off and hurricane season upon us I decided to salvage some mistreated and dehydrated Gulf Coast cakes and try an outdoor project. I constructed a blender attachment as per TVCasualty's slurry tek and after a 6 hour dunk ground up 4 cakes.

The substrate is old horse poo and straw scrounged from a barn up the road, chopped the straw up pretty well and soaked with the poo for an hour (no pasteurization).
Laid down a layer of straw, layer of the mix, layer of myc. soup, then more horse poo and straw. I'm casing one but I really don't think it will matter seeing how sloppy I threw these together. 2 days after setting them outside I can see some myc. has gotten through about two inches of substrate.
The poo is attracting quite a few bugs so later on I'll be looking into screening of some sort, but I'm really happy with how little effort this took. Even those living in a tightly packed neighborhood could probably get away with a grow like this. "Oh those? My petunias never came up, such a dissapointment."
