i would recommend you doing the popcorn alone for the ksss.. not sure bout the shiitake coz iv never done those.. maybe your popcorn moisture isnt right? maybe your problem is wet spot bacteria which is a common mistake.. how do you prep your popcorn? why did they fail? contams? maybe its also the syringe, where did you get it? lots of reasons could have led to 'fail' ![]() so give us more details so we can help

If your shiitake jars were more than 20% grain That would explain your failure. Try again using 20% (or less) wheat or oat bran and oak sawdust. They definately like oak. Being that popcorn was the common variable in the failed projects I would examine the popcorn prep as Vinz suggested. Shiitakes like everything - Millet, WBS, Wheat Berries, Rye berries, so popcorn should work too although I've never used it. |

I'm almost positive the Popcorn jars failed because I innoculated when they were too hot, noobie mistake, should have let them cool down better. As for my Shiitake popcorn jar I added Oak sawdust but i think I had about 60% popcorn, 40% sawdust. The shiitakes are colonizing the supercakes fast! How should they be cased? I came home today and looked at my QT jars of BRF, on one of them I have yellow spots below the mycelium, i'm guessing this "Myc Piss" |

Never fruited them from jars but Teknical has: http://forums.mycotopia.net/fungi-gr...take-pics.html (shitake pics) Maybe he'll weigh in on this one. Yellow spots.....Pics? Shiitakes do produce metabolites to fight off infection. Man those things are tough too!! I've had 'em fight off bacterial infections and go on to fruit. | |

another thing would be that your jar is kinda full to the brim for grain jars it would be better to leave allowance so you can shake the grain at 30% and 70% colonization to make it colonize faster.. another tip to get the moisture right for popcorn would be to add a little vermiculite with the mix..

Wondering, Would Vermiculite with Blood Meal added be good a sub for casing, or are the nutrients supposed to come from what your spawning with? I'm kind of new to fungus ![]() Also My BRF's got contaminated, when I made them I steamed them once put a layer of dry verm ontop but my dry verm layer got wet somehow, these are my problems. will be rubbing down the whole closet and putting down some plastic on the walls and carpet. Also next time i'll just do Pint jars so I can utilize my PC, which leads to another question my PC has no Weight thing on top, just the lid and no attachments, can I still Pressure Cook with it? |
