Coir: loose or bricked?

I found some coir at a pet shop and they had it in 2 forms, the bricks and bags of just loose coir.

Since you have to break up the coir anyway, would it just be easier to go with the loose stuff?

Cool, the bricks are $2 more but about 3-4x the weight.

Spent all day trying to find verm, perlite, Jiffymix and coir....coir is the only thing I could find. (Checked WalMart, Target, Home Depot...)

I did find a grain store up the street though, that should surely come in handy.

SWIM has some mycobags going now, but he's pretty sure he wants to case them. He thinks he might fruit on in a bag just as a test.

Perlite you can usually find at Home Depot, Walmart, K-mart, Lowes. Verm can be a royal PITA to find. If you have any nurseries anywhere near you, that is going to be your best bet. You obviously could find the perlite there too. Sometimes Home Depot has Verm (I have seen people find it there), but I have never seen it there and I have looked so many times.

Found Verm at Lowes, they only have MG Perlite though, which gets algae bigtime, had to get reg perlite at a Hydro shop.

Lowes ends up carrying Verm (medium grade) when fall comes. they sell it in the fireplace supplies, they call it realistic ash bed (i think) for gas fireplaces.

Def bricked, preferably blocked.

Botanicare CocoGrow 5Kg block (retail $15-$20).

Hydrates to 65 liters of coir. Equivalent to 8-12 blocks (depending on brand).
