I'm new to mushrooms, but I get that same thing when I grow my trays of wheat grass. To get rid of it, I water it with Ozone water, but adding a little hydrogen peroxide to the water should have the same effect. Why not try spraying them with water and peroxide first first to see if it works on the cakes? You don't have anything to loose by trying, and it might just save your harvest.
