"Regular" Brown Rice vs. "Instant" Brown Rice ??

    Hello there topiates,

Wondering if anyone had any experience with this...

I just recently moved and the grocery stores in this area are very limited on what they carry compared to where I was before. No BRF. Looking down the rice aisle there were two options for brown rice (to blend and make flour).

One was organic but was $7 for 36oz (1 kg).

The other option which was way cheaper (about half the price of the organic) was instant brown rice.

I looked at the ingredients on the instant one and it said (to the best of my knowledge) parboiled rice. I am guessing that it was pre cooked to help with the instant part. Just curious if anyone has used the instant type for pf tek type cakes.

I ended up with the expensive organic brand. I will try the instant at a later date but supplies are limited at the moment.

Thanks in advance for any replies..

    peace

You said you got organic brown rice right ? So yah it will work great. You can get cheaper long grain brown rice that works fine , but this way your supporting organic agriculture ... blah blah.

It can be summed up entirely by Buckaroo Banzai's recent post ...

    Long grain will work.

When you grind - don't reduce it completely to a powder. Leave some almost whole rice kernels. The rough texture gives better results as it is less likely to compress/pack down.

This is what I shoot for:

Correct. I guess I am really looking for the answer on the instant brown rice question. Just curios if it is any good or if anyone has tried it. I did see long grain and it was right between the two so I'll prolly pick that up next time.

At the same time my mind starts churning and I saw short grain brown rice. It makes me start thinkin again.....

This whole pf tek thing is new to me. I started on pcorn and rye berries back in the day with no problems what so ever but I wanted to try something easier(?) Inquiring minds want to know

The instant BR will work fine ,it's been partially cooked so it is a bit easier to grind..
The nute levels should be close to the regular BR..
