    LC, Contam or Myc?

    Hoping it's myc, just a bit of brown in it that I worry about. Also posted a pic of a cake, just in case anyone sees something i don't. SWIM's first grow, want's to ge sure.

    BTW.. Uploading pics on a cellular connection.. 'tis a bitch.

    Hopefully two more pics in next post.

    NVM, can't upload the cake pics for some reason. Keeps failing. Oh well, the LC is what's important right now.

    It's very hard in not impossible to tell if an LC is contaminated.
    The best bet is to shoot up a jar and see what happens.
    Good luck

    Outta' spores, so that's the plan! Although, my last one was uber disgusting when it grew out. That LC looked a bit like.. I dunno, kinda like clumps of fairly dark dust. This looks a bit more like a loogey or something. Just a bit brown, not quite myc white.

    Let it grow out a bit more. I can see what you're saying but it still does look like myc to me. What did you make the LC out of?

    honey can also cause some brownish color
    It might be a good idea to shoot a little into a test jar with a little grain in it to be sure

    Yes, my current LC has a full syringe of Hillbilly in it (oops) now i've got lots of individual strands of myc that are off colored with a few spores inbetween. Definately doesn't look like the pictures I normally see with individual puffballs of myc sticking together.

    Lol, no fly. Syringe was made with a few gills in it I believe. SWIM's FOAF made it for him. Just knocked up a BRF jar with it, we'll see what it does I guess.

    Would like to do grain, but SWIM's PC only takes half pint jars, and I don't think that's large enough for rye or anything really, from what I hear.

    Glad to hear about the many spores/honey causing discoloration, with that in account, I think it looks fairly healthy then.

    On a side note, SWIM also has a jar of mostly colonized BRF, but it's going realllly slow. Been about two weeks now and it's about 75%. Would this be due to lack of good FAE? Or lack of nutrient from using the following recipe:

    Quote:
    Substrate preparation
    For one ½ pint jar(~240 ml) you will need:
    => 140 ml vermiculite
    => 40 ml brown rice flour
    => some vermiculite to fill the jar to the top (app. 20 ml)
    => water

    For 6 jars, this amounts to:
    => 3.5 US cups vermiculite
    => 1 US cup brown rice flour
    => Add enough water so that there is a little pool on the bottom of the mixing bowl.
    This came out to about 3.5:1:2.5 Verm:BRF:Water

    A reliable FOAF pointed out that 2:1:1 verm:BRF:water is a better ratio, so that's what SWIM has been using now.

    I could just wait and see, but it'd be a shame to put this community to waste. lol.
