    Question Possible Contaminant?

I have 3 pint jars of rye colonized and one all of a sudden has this rust colored liquid in spots. It doesn't look like the yellow myc piss and there is no off odor, just smells like colonized rye. Any ideas?

I would have normally thought that also, but the other two jars are solid white and that one was the last to colonize near 100% and the color is really redish not yellow. Also like I said there is no bad odor so I might just add it to the Dpoo and see what happens. Or I could add the two jars to one tub and the third to a separate tub to see if anything different happens. Just hate to waste that valuable Mycrotopia Donkey doo.

Perhaps its rust from the lid, and built up condensation dripped to settle at the bottom of your jar to give you that pool o rust.

I checked that idea out and the innoculation hole is just starting to show a tiny sign of rust, not in the amount I would have thought rust would have bled out into any condensation. Also that is the only jar of the three to have condensation built up in it.

I would isolate it if you believe you have a contam. But it doesn't look too sick to me - then again all I get here is trich and black mold

looks like bacterial contam, the way it's not colonizing some grains, but the rest it is. Common with bacteria

Not totally sure it is a contaminant, Just trying to see if anyone else has had this happen. Definitely going to make a mini tub with it to see if anything different happens to it different than the tub made with the other two jars.

That was one of my concerns, the uncolonized areas. They have the begginings of myc but not solid white like the other two jars. also usually with a bacterial contamination you get a wierd odor which this does not have, just smells like myc and rye.

Guess my myc has been drinking too much beer

Ill throw them in the Dpoo today and see what happens, Got plenty of spores and rye is cheap, so no worries.
