![]() | WBS jar, mycylium or contam?
This is my foafs 2nd attempt at WBS quart jars. First time worked great. These jars were in semi-cold storage for first couple weeks. At 20% colonization they were shaken and temped up to 80 deg. Its been 3 or 4 days and almost all of them are 100% now. That seems awful fast to me. Its not as brilliant white as I expect cakes to be with almost no rhizo looking growth. The off white could be just because of the darker seeds behind it. What else could this be? Cobweb? Would it have a different odor? Any pointers? Thanks in advance. |

A pic would help. I think you're suspecting trich with its speedy white colonization. I read recently from someone here that trich will usually go green before full colonization or follow VERY shortly after. Last edited by purefficiency; 10-16-08 at 20:50. Reason: too high tonight |

Definitely need pics. 3-4 days colonizing 20-80% IS fast, but it's not unheard of. Some myc can appear a little off-white if they're dehydrating, or so has been my experience. Most of my encounters with trich have only stayed white for a short time. Exposure to light can expedite it's change in color, if that is what you have. But let's hope its just a really aggressive strain; if nothing else, time will definitely tell.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure its not trich. Foaf has been growing cakes for 5 yrs. They are cambo clones so it doesnt get much faster than that. It will be 3 or 4 days before spawning can get done and Im keeping 1 jar out in the light. So I should know for sure if its trich by then. |

I remember an extremely similar thread, and sandman was willing to bet something that it was trich. Same thing, extremely fast colonization without rhizomorphic growth. Lemme try and find a link and edit it in... ::Edit:: http://forums.mycotopia.net/fungi-gr...-too-fast.html (brf colonizing too fast) Quote:
