Get a Bucket. Some bleach. And some tape water. Fill the bucket up 3/4's of the way to the top and add some bleach to make about 15% solution. Then you can imerse your jar under the water in the bucket open the lid slowly until the jar fills with water. when the jar is filled with water close it back up and let sit for 10 mins. Then discard the jars contents in your chosen method. This works great if your in an apartment and people are going to wonder why your caring a jar(s) to the dumpster. Another meathod is to put the contamed jars into you PC. And resterilize them at 15psi for 45-90mins your choice and them discard them. And last but not least for the rich take jar over to garbage open the lid and drop into the garbage. 3 ways to do it. first one I have never herd of until 5minutes ago when the I dea poped into my head. Also may you never hay to use this Tek.

Yeah, the bleach thing would work well but then you have to handle the bleach. Injecting a syringe or 2 of alcohol (Or even bleach for that matter) into your jar will accomplish the same thing but be a lot less messy.

Tossing the whole jar, like you said, is always an option if you have a lot more spare money than spare time. I personally am pretty broke and would opt to use a method which saved me the jar.

Hell if it saves a jar its worth it, no matter how rich or poor.

I just put all the contam jars in a trashbag in storage room, till they accumulate, then take them out to the country and use them as target practice for the .40. Don't take kindly to contammed jars.

Lol awesome good idea shootin em. that would be awesome for my saiga to have all of topias contaminated jars! i reuse em by using bleach. Ive also learned to take some of those contaminated cakes and isolate them from the non contaminated bc sometimes you get lucky and get a couple shrooms out of it.

contamed contents also make for great additions to the compost pile, some types of trich are great for plants.

people really toss their glass jars? its more trouble than i want stuffing a box of canning jars in my backback and biking em home every time i screwed up...

Well I thought that was an excellent idea there Karmakraze! just make sure you rinse thoroughly so no fumes stick around when planning another grow or so on.... As this can cause rosecomb.

here's what my friend does:

-throw it straight in the PC for 60 minutes.
-take the scalding hot jar and empty it outside.
-fill the jar with bleach water and PC again for 30 minutes.
-hand wash the jar and try again
easy peasy

it was hard as hell for me to find 1/2 pint jars where I live and my first batch 11 out of 12 contam'd. after cleaning the jars and redesigning my lids, I haven't had 1 contam since.

I guess it was a combination of tilting the jars too much and coarse vermiculite. There were 4 nail holes in the jars, and when the jars were tilted - the coarse vermiculite would move out of the way - exposing the substrate.

the lids now have silicone'd injection ports, and a big hole in the middle with a tyvek filter silicone'd on it.

I can get jars for about a dollar a jar. I used to have major problems with contamination because I was opening them outside and putting the contents in the compost.

A cloud of green mold would erupt and the wind would blow it all over (including on my cloths).

As soon as I started throwing the jars away my contams dropped to virtually nothing.

I'm guessing that you could try some of the ideas in this thread but why take the risk over $1.00?

I just open them outside, pour into trash, put some dish soap in each jar and fill with hot water and let soak.

Or you can store them and use them to fill space in the PC when you are already running it for other purposes. None of the contams will survive that!
