Hi! Im new to this Forum and over all to growing mushrooms. I was wondering about the taste of magic mushrooms. Which is the most tastiest species you have grown indoors? And what in your opinion is the most delicious gourmet mushroom that can be grown indoors I know that all of us have different preferences and tastes!!! Mandrake |

Yeah, If you don't like the taste you can make Honey, or Chocolates, or Tea, ect. SWIM doesn't mind the taste, but finds powderizing them in a coffee grinder and mixing it up with some cranberry juice and vodka in a martini shaker brings it on fast and strong. Hits you like a wall in about 10-15 minutes. Blessings, Oakchild 8-) |

Well all cubensis are the same species, there are just lots of substrains. I haven't noticed a difference in taste from cube to cube, just slight textural differences. Now pans and cyans do taste a little different, but better is going to be subjective so that's a difficult question to answer. As for gourmet mushies, my favorite is shiitakes because i like their dense, meaty texture and flavor. Cinnamon caps are excellent but will only fruit in cold temps. I hear lion's mane are excellent but haven't actually tried them yet. I have some fruiting now though.

Lion's mane don't taste much different from oysters, imho. Though there's a visual/textural difference. I'd probably have to say shiitake as well, though enoki are pretty tasty too. I've found that in soups and such, combining mushrooms creates a fuller flavor. A true vegan miso soup was made in this manner by myself for friends who swing that way, by combining 2-3 different mushrooms in the broth and soup and omitting the fish flakes. Another fun thing to do, is when you're rehydrating dessicated mushrooms for use, soaking them in water is one option, but adding a little sake or soy sauce, or whatever you want will certainly enhance those flavors.

of the magic variety the only ones i think really taste any different are the stones of Mex A and Atl #7 a sort of nutty flavor, but still has the strong death flavor of all magics makes it almost tolerable, though i found swallowing small stones like pills to be much easier then trying to chew them up |

Aww yeah, King Trumpets are sooo tastey, and filling ....i you can believe that. Thanks Hyphaenation , great pick. Yumbo Baby !!! Mandrake try them, the recipes in the link hyphaenation attached are awesome. mmmm , IMO,cubies are an aquired taste ... get to work aquiring it !!!! Peace, LSDarkstar Just curious , anybody got a LC of the King Trumpet. I think I'm going to get some of these going. I own a small produce company... I may be able to get a couple local eating establishments into an exclusive deal. Gotta get em goin first though. I rarely sell them ,..... should have attempted a clone the last time I sold them. Shucks. They do taste SO good ........ I need to get a couple chef's on board. Black Trumpet's have a wonderful flavor as well. A Chantrel (not indoor though) has a great way of bumping up the flavor of chicken . - Takes chicken to another realm. Just a couple thoughts Have a wonderful evening Mandrake ..and the rest of ya'll. Last edited by Beast; 12-12-08 at 14:59. |

Cool picture! Those are absolutely beautiful mushrooms! How much harder is it to grow a King oyster than it is to grow pearl/blue oyster? Those Kings look as if they are calling and begging me to grow them! ![]() Yes and I love that Chantarel and Black Trumpet!!! Too bad they cant be grown indoors, at least not that I know of! KTO's do last quite a while in the fridge, even in plastic! They are currently being mass cultivated and sold in Australia; i bought a bag of them when i was in Melbourne over the summer from an asian market. I forgot about them and found them a week later in their plastic baggie. The ends had a faint hint of slimyness, but the caps and stems were in good shape.
