Cold dunk

FOAF is going to be abandoning his babies for a week over xmas.

Said babies are due to have first flush just in time.

FOAF was thinking of dunking and leaving them in a cold place for that week in the hope that they will be ok on return and not started flush two (or at least not fully.

Bad idea?

I think the cold place could be ok... I dunno whether it would be better to dunk before you leave or on your return tho.

I'm thinking it might be too much of a shock to their system to be dunked and then left in the cold... could be wrong tho.

I figure if you dont mind the taste of spores then i'd go on ahead as planned. Maybe not a cold spot but a lower temp than normal spot. Like say maybe 65-62 deg. should produce shrooms at a very slow pace, just enough that yo9u should catch most of em in time if not all of em b4 they drops spores... I dont see any flaw in your plan, besst of luck to ya though, whatever you choose.

Just stick them in cold storage, no pre-dunk. The cold will slow down the mycelium and it will basically hibernate. When you come back you can dunk before putting back in the fruiting chamber. That will help it wake back up like a spring rain after a thaw. If you're in between flushes, go ahead and do right now since any existing fruit on the substrate probably won't survive too well.
