substrate recipe

Thinking of doing a rice/poo mix (pasteurized and all that other good stuff) anyway, after making the mix and knockin up the jars, then put a layer of coir on top and then close the lids.... n e one think that this would work out good? let me know your opinions ty

I made a supercake of sorts with alot of the same ingredients and added worm castings and it seems to be working, I'm not sure how well just a rice poo mix will do. I did start a quart jar the other day with some wormpoo on the bottom and a layer of rice on the top like a BB Nugget and the wormpoo seems to be colonizing about the same rate. I say give it a try.

i always add poo to my pf tek jars, what can i say shrooms love shit! They colonize faster, more evenly, and in my opinion stronger than plain rice. Even tho ive compared before in my last batch i innoculated i think 11 poo mix jars and 4 rice jars. I had a really slow starting and colonizing syringe think i did 5 poo mix and 2 plain rice. The rice didnt even begin colonizing! But anyway highly recomended!

Not sure about the coir layer on top. Are you using it to replace the dry verm layer? If you are dont sound too good!

you think i should save the coir for when the jars get broken up into a larger substrate? .. as with the dry verm layer, if i put it on top in the jars, should i also add it to the top of the bulk substrate or is once enough?

OK looks like your trying to case the jars with coir and add a dry verm layer! to clarify u need the dry verm layer. Save the coir and case your larger substrate with whatever casing you choose but your leaning towards coir so a 50/50 verm/coir mix should be great. look around for more info tho!
