First Post in Fungi, I RULE!

So fresh starts are always fun.

What do you guys think...should my FOAF case his castings/coir trays that have slown down colonization at arround 80% or wait till 100%. They are real rhyzomorphic but the last 2 days have shown little growth. They grew fast from the start and are only 7 days old.

They are in alluminum pie pans with alluminum foil with a few small holes poked. Watcha think?

    keep on truckin

I'd wait til 100%, I've cased early before and it just introduced contams, the substrate waiting to be colonized is primed for whatever gets to it first, peeking and early casing attempts will potentially toss in some unfriendlies...

I've been waiting 2 weeks for a darn poo sub to colonize. I'm getting worried its soooooo slow. Waiting is the worst part of the hobby, and that time can be passed with other work on the hobby

    Great first fungi post Sandman!!!!

I never wait for worm poo to completly colonize, because it does not most of the time. Case it at 7-10 days. That should do you well...

i'd wait a couple more days, the coir should help it finish up
but no need to wait for it to overlay...

highflyer, you have noticed that castings dont colonize 100%?

My foaf made 5 trays and he went ahead and cased a few and didnt case a few to see what the diff was...the uncased ones still havent finished up any more but they are starting to show primordia (white dots, and lots of them)

Another 2 day older tray of the same castings/coir mix has also began shooting pins out and it as well has some bit of uncolonized poo. The ryyzos run all over but it places the coverage is a little loose.
