![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mushrooms & Green Tea May Decrease Breast Cancer Risk Mushrooms & Green Tea May Decrease Breast Cancer Risk Reported by: RNS Sunday, Mar 15, 2009 @10:10am CST Mushrooms and green tea may be key ingredients in the fight against breast cancer. According to a study of 2,000 Chinese women, the more fresh and dried mushrooms the women ate, the lower their risk of developing breast cancer. The rates were even lower for women who drank green tea on a daily basis. Lab research shows mushroom extracts have anti-tumor properties that stimulate the immune system's cancer defenses, while green tea contains important antioxidant compounds. The study is published in this month's "International Journal of Cancer." Link with short news video: http://arkansasmatters.com/content/fulltext/?cid=200651

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Green Tea, Mushrooms Decrease Breast Cancer, Study Says Monday, 23 March 2009 http://www.worldteanews.com/index.ph...tudy-Says.html According to a study published in the March issue of the International Journal of Cancer, Chinese women who consumed mushrooms and green tea had a lower risk of breast cancer than those who did not. The results were based on face-to-face interviews conducted in 2004 and 2005 with 1,009 female patients age 20 to 87 with histologically confirmed breast cancer, as well as with an equal number of healthy women in the same age group. Researchers asked the women questions about mushroom and tea consumption, diet and lifestyle. Explaining the lag between the time the surveys were conducted and the publication of the results, lead researcher Dr. Min Zhang said the study was completed in September 2005, analyzed in 2006, and the publishing process filled the rest of the interim. "It is quite normal for a chief investigator, who takes responsibilities for several large research projects at the same time, to publish the research findings after field work completion with three and a half years," said Zhang, who is the director of the Lu Cha Sino-Australian Research Collaboration in the School of Population Health at the University of Western Australia. The results of the study suggested that higher dietary intake of mushrooms and green tea was associated with an additional lower risk of breast cancer in Chinese women, he said. "This study does not prove a cause-and-effect relationship," Zhang stressed. "The word 'suggest' is very important, as I would not want to go beyond the inference that certain types of mushrooms that are popular in china could possibly be protective and could possibly help explain why Chinese women are at less risk of breast cancer. These are just possibilities, not strong likelihoods." He added that there may be other reasons for the low breast cancer rate in Chinese women for which the evidence is much stronger, including lower body mass index, drinking green tea and "even the simple explanation of just having smaller breasts." The abstract of the study added that further research exploring the relationship between mushrooms, tea and breast cancer was warranted.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Very great article and information Hyph. I love how they find more and more ways of fighting off these health issues. Very good read and I'm definitely gonna have to start a route of drinking more green tea. Mushrooms come natural to me I just love them whether they are psychedelic or not.

i wish these offshoot stories would come with more details. there are many species that have been known to have anti-tumor properties, and there are some that are known to cause cancer. what are the chances most of the people who read the news are going to go buy the more expensive good mushrooms. most of them will probably compound there problems by eating more of the cheaper 'bad' mushrooms. |

![]() | My aunt who I love and adore as another mother had breast cancer. Double mastectomy and plastic surgery to restore what they could. I was not being insensitive I merely commented on some information that could be useful for other women. Sorry I didn't write a response reflecting how much I care about women. My aunt laughs off the experience so I guess thats how I reflected her cheerful disposition in my comment...

man, i have zero info at my fingertips to corroborate my post here, but i just have to say - reading your post - that i don't believe 'arizona' green tea fits into the scenario this article is talking about...the fructose content of that alone probably negates any positive aspects of whatever form of green tea is in it...imho

Green tea is good for you, and they are also finding others. Red tea, White tea and even the good old black teas. All for different reasons. The tannin content, for one thing, is an anti-carcinogen, it helps to eliminate free radicals, that's why red wine is good for you, the tannins. I wish I knew the other contents that are helpful. PsychoDrogue's question was the first thing that came to my mind too. What kind of mushroom? The Chinese have been using a great many medicinals for centuries. I don't think that your average white button will have as much benefit as say the Reishi. But, who knows, even the buttons have a good mineral content and a higher level of one vitamin, but I forget which one, it's an odd one, K or F or something that you rarely hear about. It would be nice to find out just which mushroom is the one these women are taking. Anti-Carcinogenic benefits would be good for both men and women. Peace Cult | |
