![]() | Straw Log when to try and fruit
some pic's of my straw log project. Costa Rica's. At what point should I try to fruit this project. It seem's to be coming along nicely. This project has made it the longest. I would love to get it to the fruiting stage before I kill it or it gets contams. Thoughts??? |

Well it's not fully colonized yet,but its not far off. By the looks of things a week or two and that thing should be good to put in the fruiting chamber.

If you are going to leave that log in the chamber shown in the pics, I would use something different between your log and perlite. The myc will rip right through that foil. perhaps a plate or a piece of plastic elevated above your perlite so you utilize the most of the surface area for good humidity. I say loosen that bag around it and give it a lil room to breath, It will finish colonizing a lil faster. It looks to me that you should be trying to fruit it within the week. If it were me I would be giving it light now. Its looking good.

most important thing "i" have found with straw logs, is to watch for pooling water. you can leave the bag draped over it, but air it out too like 3x daily or more, but in watching for pooling water on the bottom, also make sure it doesn't get to dryied out on the top portions and form a "skin" of dry mycelium. with a FC, or a bag draped over it should work out just fine though. I sometimes, not always though, upon birthing it i roll it in verm, or DEC it like you would a cake. just my opinions - that have worked fore me...good luck, straw logs are fun, but short lived, watch out for trich.
