If they have flushed at least once you will probably be OK. If they have not flushed you will probably drown them due to an undeveloped net work and the fact that they were to dry to begin with.

Play it safe and if your moisture content was right going in then I would wait to dunk after the first flush. I am glad you did not dunk them for 48 hours... you could have ended up with a pile of worthless mush if the center of the cake was not fully colonized. Hope you have a great weekend!

thanks for the help guys and gals,i had to go earlyer so i didnt see the rest of the posts until now. i took rocs advice and never dunked, sure another few days in their jars wont hurt so i just left them. and thats intresting roc that you ask why i am dunking straght from the jar,i thaught it was common policy to dunk straight from the jar, this is my first time growing mushrooms and i have plenty cakes and will be making up plenty more so i will have to give both ways a try and see how i go,i think i got the idea from the lets grow mushrooms video. oh and cheers roc, hope you have a great weekend to,that goes for everyone, mine is over, had a nice bottle of scotlands finest last night, that will do me for this week at least,my old body dont recover the way it used to,lol. |

No need to dunk right out of the jar... want even hurt if they start to pin in the jar. Just mist them good upon birth and stop misting directly when the pins come and you will succeed on your first grow. You got a terrarium our something to keep humidity levels up?

I always dunk at birth now. I wont let them go more than 12-14 hours though. 48 hours under water could be fatal I think. I know there has not been any real proof of a cake dunked at birth producing better vs. a cake not dunked. I am also aware that there is no real proof of cold benefitting cubes at all as far as kick starting them. But, I have had some of my biggest and best flushes with my cakes after doing this, and it really doesnt hurt anything (with the exception being added handling could introduce a contam). I have had great luck doing this, or maybe despite doing it, but I will continue.

I have pushed dunking to extremes. 48 hours is the longest I have dunked and it was ok. After a couple of flushes if you were to do that it would just turn to mush and fall apart. I like 24 hours personally. I too dunk at birth. You don't have to, but you will get a better first flush if you do.

rocketman...I just did an experiment with two myco bags. one went in the fridge for 12 hours after coming out of incubation and the other did not. the one that went in the fridge fruited later but much better. since they were both multispore... it proves nothing. perhaps a repeat experiment with a proven clone LC would be better proof. perhaps I will give that a shot someday.

After one gets the hang of things I think it is great to dunk before the first flush... but for the first timer it just opens the door for too many problems. The pftek has always been successful for the beginer and to see success the first go I think one should stick to the tek. I do all sorts of things now that I have the experience but I would not throw a new person off and lead them to disappointment. Learn as you go type of thing... Learn to get your moisture content right from the git go and the first timer will succeed every time.
