![]() ![]() | Ziploc Spawn Bag Tek
Here, I will present a method for modifying run of the mill, autoclavable spawn bags, with Ziplocs Zip n Steam bags. This allows a clutivator, to easily open and close spawn bags.. making them infinately easier to work with and do G2Gs. Furthermore, this addition only takes 10-15 minutes and costs a few pennies per bag. Think of it as the mason jar lid mods except for bags.. I posted this over at the shroomery a couple days ago but its recieved a measly 2 replies so far.. hopefully it gets a little more use around here, as I have found it to be very useful and convenient. Ive been experimenting with these nifty do-dads for a couple months now. ![]() Started out using the Large "Zip n Steams" as a convenient and quick way to pasteurize bulk subs in the microwave (5 to 6 min. depending on amount used). Impressed with the strength of the seal and quality of materials, I wondered how much punishment they could handle. After discovering the original Ziploc Patents and with a lil help from the omniscient and omnipotent Google, I was impressed to find that the exterior was made of polypropylene. The design is really simple yet fairly ingenious, consisting of two layers of plastic and an airtight, inverted overlap between the two layers. ![]() As, you can see.. it can also take massive Michael Phelpsian bong rips.. The built in vents allow the bag to relieve steam and pressure once inflated. The exterior shell of the bags is made of Polypropylene while the interior layer is polyethylene. -Polypropylene has a melting point of ~160°C (320°F) -Many plastic items for medical or laboratory use can be [COLOR=#ff0000]made from polypropylene because it can withstand the heat in an autoclave. Its heat resistance also enables it to be used as the manufacturing material of consumer-grade kettles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polypropylene Once I read this.. it was on like donkey kong *Disclamer= Due to the invisibly bitch-assedness of these bags in photographs, I was forced to go back and lay down some sweet-ass Microsoft Paint skills in order to make sense of the images and to avoid resembling a mycological mime. Over the past month, I have been having great success with moding the Sporeworks large presealable bags to include the upper portion of the aforementioned Ziploc bags, removing any need for sealers and simple as Sunday morning G2Gs.. This is my third batch of these so far and no contams yet. In the last batch made last week, I reused two of these bags and so far as I can tell, they are holding up to repeated sterilizations. So without further ado.. First, you want to make sure you get the medium sized Zip n Steams.. only $2 for 10 ![]() Next, cut the ziploc bags about 2-3 in below the loins of its zipper ![]() ![]() Next batch I will be cutting the bag much lower so the vents will sit above the spawn bags opening, stuffing the steam vents with poly fill and keeping the zipper closed though PCing.. until G2G or time to spawn. If that works im gonna let these bad boys fly solo in the PC. Go ahead and place a thin layer of tinfoil through the the top of the ziploc and slide it into one of the spawn bags folds, lining them up so that the tops of both bags are flush and of equal height. ![]() The tin foil will protect the both the bags from being sealed through the middle while also sealing the extra flap to the ziploc bag. Almost done.. just bust out some packaging tape. This will be able to seal both ends of the ziploc bag to the insides of the spawn bag to cover any seams that steam could rise up through. The top portion should have the packaging tape fold over the top and onto the front of the spawn bag. And the bottom of the ziploc should be taped to the inside of the spawn bag. Here is a pretty lil diagram a whipped up to explain my convoluted syntax: ![]() Unless you have an impulse sealer that works very well, ziploc will not melt as well as the spawn bag resulting in a seal not being formed (not a big deal though as long as you have packaging tape. But if you want to go the extra mile you can use an adhesive silicone to seal sections of another spawn bag to the outside of the ziploc, and after curing it will form a perfect seal. Here are some pics of some finished bags with tyvek inserts, one is freshly out the PC, the other has been colonizing from a G2G for a couple days. ![]() ![]() Thats all folks..apologies for all the grammar mistakes and wacko format, had 3 tests today so I know it has more cosmetic errors than Tara Reids niples at the moment I will be updating this thread soon with several experiments with these the same ziploc bags so stay tuned, same bat time same bat channel Moksha Out Last edited by MycoMoksha; 04-24-09 at 19:32. anybody gave this a shot yet? If you use bags, love G2Gs and have not tried this yet then do yourself a favor.. stop watching Lela Star bumping uglies on PornHub, get ur ass up and return the favor for your significant other.. the whore that shoves your brain through dimension 4.. Ms. Mycellium!!! and try the damn tek lol.. Seriously though, my g2g success rates when using bags went from 40-50% to 99ish% with my mod/tek(as seen on TV).. would be a damn shame to see such a simple, practical, and incredibly efficient tek sink beneath the waves in an endless sea of posts entitled: "Help! My PF jars are turning white.. is this a contam/grizzly bear sperm!?!?!? " or something to that nature lol and give me YOUR feedback, would love to hear how this works for yall out there as well as it does for me Mocksha (AKA Koopa) Out:::::OfThisWorld=>SmilingDownOnOurs: BirsdEyeView, NeverNewLifePastsFastAsCars |
