Holes in a mono

How close to the substrate do people like your holes in the sides of your MonoTubs? 1-3" or closer?

everyone does it a little different. i think the most common way is having a couple at or just above the substrate level, and maybe a couple up higher near the lid.

Yep, I agree boss, slightly above the sub to give Co2 a release point, then higher up to allow fresh air to be drawn in. CO2 being a heavier gas, sinks to sub level and this causes a kind of venturi effect. Pulling in fresh air.

That is what I thought, but what would be to high for the holes away from the substrate? Say no more than 1 1/2 2"?
