Rust and Liquid Culture

If there is a bit of rust on the underside of the lid where the holes are, is this a big deal?

What should be done about it? I obviously can't open the LC and expose it to contams so nothing can be done for another couple weeks, but afterwards what would be the best plan?

I was thinking of silicone sealing the underside of the lid holes just like I did on the top, has anyone else done this? I figure the needle will go through both layers of silicone so it should work, right?

Any better ideas?

That happened to me last year. I panicked shortly, but the LC was fine. When I made silicone injection points on lids some time ago I did like you suggest, and put the silicone on both sides of the lid.

Cool I think I'll do that then... I was sorta worried about the LC since there is a lot of humidification inside the jar dripping and such, but if your's turned out fine it should be cool... I'll make sure and do a test jar anyways.

In some of the nice threads in the vaults I noticed some people were using extremely rusty lids. So I don't think a bit of iron will hurt the mycelium. But yes, always better to have a jar too much than one too little. ;-) Good luck!
